We have closed our foster and adoption programme to focus on desexing as many dogs as we can in the community to stop the flood of unwanted dogs and puppies.
But you will find some amazing dogs needing a forever home in our Dogs Advertised on Behalf folder on our Facebook page as well as at: Pound Pooches Whangarei , Bay of Islands Animal Rescue, Country Retreat Animal Sanctuary, SPCA Whangarei and SPCA Kerikeri.

Our process
We have a process to help ensure our pups go to the right homes for them.
All Ruakaka Dog Rescue dogs must go to homes that are owner-occupied (unless in exceptional circumstances) and they must sleep inside and be family pets.
A donation of $300 applies which covers vaccinations, de-sexing, micro-chipping (registered with the NZ Companion Animal Database), flea and worm treatment, and current council registration.

You will need to complete an Expression of Interest Form. We do NOT accept applications via text, Facebook or phone.

If you are the successful applicant, we will be in touch to arrange a property inspection and a meet and greet to ensure it's the right fit for you and your family as well as for the dog.

If that all goes well, then you can take the dog on a two-week trial period.

If you have a dog to rehome, please fill in the Advertising on Behalf form on our forms page. Please note we only advertise dogs that are desexed.
If your dog isn't desexed, we can assist with desexing if needed. Please fill in the Desexing application form to apply.
